WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER RIDE WITH YOUR FEET ON THE DASHBOARD

You know that riding with feet up on the dashboard is unsafe, but so many people still go for comfort over safety. The injuries in a crash could be severe, and even a minor accident in which airbags deploy could have life changing consequences.

If you ride with your feet on the dash and you're involved in an accident, the airbag may send your knees through your eye sockets, breaking your legs, hips & pelvis.

Front airbags inflate within 8 to 40 milliseconds and side airbags within less than 15 milliseconds. That is faster than you can blink. The front airbags deploy at between 100 & 220 mph and for this reason passengers should never be tempted to put their feet up on the dashboard. If your feet are up on the dashboard and the vehicle you are in crashes, there is no way you will have enough time to pull your legs down before the airbags inflate.

Airbag technology has played a huge role in reducing road fatalities. According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the chances of a fatality in a crash are reduced by 61 percent if you are wearing a seat belt and are in a car fitted with airbags.

For airbags to work effectively, you have to work with them. So the next time you see someone looking comfortable with their feet up on the dashboard, it would be wise to encourage them to change their position, put their seat belt on correctly and sit up straight with their feet on the floor.
